I can already feel the pressure stepping through the big black gates of Lindsay High.
Senior Year.
It’s as if I’m running towards an exit door. A door that leads to real life; a door that leads to college; a door i’ve been awaiting. I am inches away from the first steps outside the door. As i’m reaching to step outside the door… BAM! The door shuts right in front of my face. I’ve came to the unfortunate realization that i am not quite done with high school. There is yet one more year to knock off to unlock the door that i’ve long dreamt of. I’ve put endless amount of hours on my studies. I’ve worked hard enough, and long enough. 12 years of school lead me to this very moment and I’m taking every chance I get to make this year the best one. I’m taking the second year of Leadership, put myself in Accounting 1 to explore new interests, and Government and Economics.
My interest in taking Government and Economics at the same time started when I was in 8th grade. My brother, Angel Montanez, graduated one semester early here at Lindsay High School. I have always looked up to him and admired his willingness to go above and beyond the expectations. He set the bar high for me and I wanted to make sure I pushed the bar even higher for my younger siblings. I told myself that I was going to do the same; take Government and Economics at the same time.
I’ve improved on my study habits drastically this year. My study routine consists of staying one hour after school at the library, and going home and putting another 2-3 hours of studies. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I go to PC with my boyfriend and use their library while he’s in his math class at 6. This gives me a time to do all my homework in a study centered place and enough resources to help me finish my work. I’ve got a feel of a community college environment and I’m liking it so far. The more I go, the more my attitude and mindset about college will develop. I’m trying really hard not to get behind on school work because Government and Economics have the same due dates. Accounting 1 has also proven to be a workload though I am liking it so far. Accounting has always been an interest of mine for as long as i can remember and for me to take it this year is going to top the cherry for my senior year. For as long as I have my study skills on check, I’ll have no problem finishing all my classes on time.
